The toki is a chisel shaped tool which was used by Māori for carving, shaping and weaponry. The toki is considered to represent courage, wisdom and strength.
The Manaia is traditionally believed to be the messenger between the mortal world and the spirit world, and its symbol is used as a guardian amongst most Māori iwi/hapu.
